The Wynkoop Brewing Company in Denver is reintroducing Kurt’s Mile High Malt, named after Kurt Vonnegut in celebration of the famed author’s birthday on Nov.11.

The company describes the beer as a malty, export-style Dortmunder lager made with a dash of coffee beans to give it subtle accents of roasted flavor. The brew has a 6.2 alcohol percent.

Celebrations will began at 3 p.m. at the Tattered Cover bookstore, 2526 East Colfax Ave. presented by City of Denver's Office of Cultural Affairs.

The event will include readings of Vonnegut's best material, and a lighthearted contest for the "worst" Vonnegut-style essay.

The beer is based on a bygone recipe created by Vonnegut's grandfather, Albert Lieber, of the late Indianapolis Brewery. Vonnegut and Wynkoop founder and Denver mayor John Hickenlooper became friends years ago, according to Wynkoop.
