Doris Irene Beaver Campbell died April 14 at her home in Fort Collins of renal disease. Her daughter was by her side, while her son was en-route from Kaneohe, Hawaii. She was born Aug. 23, 1919, from the union of John Gregg Beaver and Irene Amelia Walker Beaver, of Los Angeles, Calif.
"Dorrie" studied Spanish and mathematics at University of California at Los Angeles, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree. As part of “The Greatest Generation,” she worked at Douglas Aircraft Company during World War II while her husband served in the U.S. Army.
Doris married Sidney Vergne Campbell on Feb. 28, 1942. They had two children. She and Sid lived for several years in California before moving to Fort Collins in 1967.
Doris was charter president of the Auntie Stone Chapter of Questers’ International in Fort Collins. For 20 years, she worked for the Larimer County Extension Office. While in college, she was a member of the Delta Zeta and Phi Omega Pi sororities, and she continued this association in Fort Collins. She was president of the CSU Women’s Association, and the City Park Nine Women’s Golf Club. In addition, Doris was a volunteer for Friends of the Library and participated in the Lady Elks.
Mom enjoyed breeding and showing Weimaraner dogs, square dancing, golf, bowling, square dancing, bridge and travel.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years in October of 1998, her parents, and three of her brothers. She is survived by her brother Richard Scott Beaver and his wife, Mary Lynn, of San Diego, Calif. as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her daughter, Janet C. Little, of Fort Collins and her son, Dr. Ian Scott Campbell, wife Jeannette, and three beloved grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held from 3-6 p.m. May 1 at Allnutt Funeral Service, Drake Road Chapel, in Fort Collins.
