Evelyn (Tiny) Louise Holmboe

Evelyn L. Holmboe died peacefully in her bed with her friend Rosa and husband John at her side on May 2 in Fort Collins. Evelyn will be remembered for her contributions in education, her ability to lead and inspire, and to the community of South Central Los Angeles.

Evelyn was born Aug. 7, 1931 in Perham, Minn. daughter of Pete and Grace Helmberger and raised in Tracey, Minn. She received her doctorate in education with honors at the University of Minnesota. While in St. Paul she was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent treatment.

Afterward she taught in the business management school at the University of Northern Colorado during which time she taught business management courses at Air Force bases in Colorado and Texas. In the late '70s Evelyn continued teaching business classes at Sioux Falls College.

In the '80s Evelyn moved with her husband to Los Angeles where she continued teaching at Pepperdine University. She joined and became the director of South Central Community Service Center, a non-profit organization that assisted low income residents in the South Central area. She expanded the services and the size of the organization.

In 1996 Evelyn and husband John moved to the Crystal Lakes development in Red Feather. They lived there until 2007 when they moved to Fort Collins. Evelyn and John traveled extensively throughout their time together.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, John, her son Richard, and her foster son Richard McCall.

A service will be held at a later date at the Chapel of the Pines at Red Feather Lakes. For information contact Richard Holmboe at rholmboe@telus.net
