The chief judge in Larimer County has recused himself from a lawsuit filed by three news agencies against Colorado State University because his wife works at the school.
Chief Judge James Hiatt recused himself in the case of accused open-meetings violations because his wife serves on the interim president's cabinet.
Three news outlets - the (Fort Collins) Coloradoan, the Pueblo Chieftain and the Colorado Independent - are asking a judge to rule whether CSU's Board of Governors violated state open-meeting laws. The board chose Joe Blake as sole finalist for the CSU System chancellorship in a closed meeting.
The case has now been assigned to Judge Stephen Schapanski.
